The 2023-24 season of the Pepsi University Football League kicks on Tuesday 12th September 2023 with defending champions Uganda Martyrs University hosting Bugema University at their Nkozi campus at 3pm.
The two sides last met in last season’s quarter-finals where after a 1-1 draw in the first leg, Uganda Martyrs beat Bugema 2-1 at home in Nkozi to win 3-2 on aggregate to progress to the semi-finals of the competition.
But Bugema University coach, Nyanzi Meddie says revenge will not be on his mind as they travel to Nkozi but instead focus is on playing better and winning the game in front of them.
“As a team we have had enough preparation for the season. We have had several build matches with URA, KCCA and SC Villa and we are ready for the game and ready to have a better game,” Nyanzi said
“Uganda Martyrs are a tough team but we are also a tough team. We have a team with great character and with the players that we have recruited, we expect to have a great impact this season,” Nyanzi added.
For Uganda Martyrs University coach, the pressure will be on to see whether they can be the first team to lift the Pepsi University Football League trophy three times having won it for the second time last season.
“We had a good run last season and managed to lift the trophy. But we are thirsty for more so now the task is to lift it again this season,” Uganda Martyrs coach Kisuze Eric said.
