Former KCCA FC head coach Jackson Mayanja has revealed why he used to sacrifice Allan Okello after playing him for a couple of minutes.
Mayanja who served as interim KCCA FC head coach asserted that he didn’t want Okello have more damage on his knee.
“I used to sacrifice Okello to avoid further damages on his knee during my time as KCCA FC head coach. He had a meniscus tear and since we play our games on artificial turf, I used to take him off after a couple of minutes but some people thought otherwise. I was just doing my job as a professional football coach to save this young man’s career.”
“I also passed through the same in 1989 when I had a problem with my knee, I played a lot of games which led to more damage on my knee and I had to go for operation.” Said Mayanja
Mayanja added,
“Okello still has a bright future in Ugandan football, he is a brilliant football player and I just wish him quick recovery.”

Mayanja is currently a board member at KCCA FC and has previously managed URA FC, Bunamwaya SC, Kagera FC, Simba SC, Kyetume FC, AS Kigali (Assistant Coach), Uganda Cranes (Assistant Coach) and most recently Uganda Hippos (U20).
