Uganda national Netball team, She Cranes have withdrawn from the 2023 African Netball Championship.
The event officially started on Sunday, 26th November in Botswana.
According to Moses Mwase, the chairperson of the ad-hoc normalization committee, the She Cranes pulled out of the competition due to difficulty in mobilizing a team due to the management wrangles in the leadership of Netball in the country.
The crisis in started when the Uganda Netball Federation President Sarah Babirye Kityo clashed with National Council of Sports General Secretary Dr. Patrick Bernard Ogwel.
Infact, the fued immediately started after Babirye Kityo had won the UNF presidency to take over from Suzan Anek Ongom.
On 25th October, NCS revoked the license of UNF citing persistent governance and leadership challenges.
Mwase however asserts that the normalization committee will need time to organize elections
“That is part of our terms of reference, but right now, it will come a little bit late because you don’t just organize elections, you have to prepare the ground, and look into the constitution, so you cannot just jump into elections now,” Said Mwase as quoted by the Observer.
Meanwhile, the She Cranes are expected to take part in the Vitality Netball Nations Cup due in January next year.
Uganda will battle with the top three ranked sides in the world England, Australia, and New Zealand.
