Kitara, BUL prevail over Villa and Express FC

Kitara FC and BUL FC prevailed to the quarterfinal stage of the Stanbic Uganda Cup after eliminating SC Villa and Express FC respectively.

Kitara cruised to the last eight with a 2-0 victory over SC Villa at Masindi Municipal Stadium on Sunday.

Second half goals from Frank Tumwesige alias Zaga and Paul Mucureezi sent Brian Ssenyondo coached side into the quarterfinals.

The victory keeps Kitara’s hopes of an elusive Cup double alive. They currently lead the league standings with 39 points.

For, SC Villa focus will now remain in the league where they are fifth with 30 points.

Meanwhile, 2022 competition winners BUL FC needed a penalty shootout win to overcome joint record winners Express FC.

The game ended in a 1-1 stalemate in normal time at Njeru Technical centre with Ibrahim Mugulusi scoring for BUL FC while Katumba levelled matters for the Red Eagles.

Abbey Kikomeko’s side prevailed 4-1 on penalties to join Pajule Lions and Kitara FC into the Quarterfinal stage.

The round of 16 will resume on Monday with URA FC welcoming KCCA FC at Metha playground in Lugazi whereas Soltilo Bright Stars will host Police FC at Kavumba Recreation ground.
