DC United edge Hot Star to clinch 2024 Mutalaga Community Shield

DC United came from a goal down to beat Hot Star 2-1 in the 2024 Mutalaga Community Shield that was held Lweza Playground on Sunday.

Second half substitute George Kaddu netted a brace for DC United as they powered past Hot Star.

Nsereko Junior had given Hot Star the lead early in the first period.

After the recess, Kaddu restored parity for DC United before he completed his brace in the final minutes of the entertaining contest.

Following their triumph, DC United were rewarded with cash prize worthy Shs1M and winners’ medals and a shield.

Hot Star FC also scooped Silver medals and cash prize worthy Shs500,000.

The Community Shield contest acted as a curtain raiser for the forthcoming 8th edition of the Mutalaga Christmas Cup that is funded by businessman Frank Ssebanenya Mutalaga.

This year’s edition will officially kick off on Monday, 8th July at Lweza Playground with two games Jesus FC against Kanaaba United and St.Mary’s FC will lock horns with Professor Buwembo FC. The prestigious competition will this year attract 80 teams that are grouped into 16 groups.
