Richard Basangwa in talks with UPL Giants

Former Vipers SC and Wadi Degla Sporting Club forward Richard Basangwa is in talks with Uganda Premier league champions SC Villa.

Swift Sports Uganda understands that SC Villa are offering Basangwa a three year employment contract and a compromise is expected to be reached.

Basangwa is currently a free agent following his departure at Egyptian side Wadi Degla Sporting.

In case the deal materializes, Basangwa will reunite with coach Morley Byekwaso whom he worked with at the Uganda U-20 national team.

He was also a key pillar for the Uganda Hippos team that won the CECAFA U-20 tournament in Tanzania in 2020 as well as reaching U-20 Africa Cup of Nations final in Mauritania (2021), losing to Ghana 2-0.

The St.Mary’s Kitende graduate has also previously featured for Maroons FC and Gaddafi FC.

He is currently with the Uganda Cranes Select team that is to face off with his potential new side SC Villa in the return leg of the FUFA Super 8 on Wednesday night.

SC Villa have already boosted their squad with the acquisition of Tonny Atukunda, Najib Yiga, Isaac Mpagi Kajubi, Semayange Kato and Hassan Mubiru among others.
