The Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) has suspended City Oilers player Edrine Walujo for 5 years over match fixing.
Walujo has will not take part in all FUBA-related activities for five years with immediate effect.
It’s was established that on the 6th of August 2024 during the FIBA 3X3 Nations League, Walujo was arrested on allegations of betting or gambling and game fixing and detained at Jinja Road Police station.
Walujo has a Police File at Jinja Police No. Jinja Road Police CRB/734/2024 on charges of match fixing as investigations continue.
The FUBA EXCOM referred the matter to the competitions council and a disciplinary hearing was conducted with evidence presented, a testimony from Walujo and the national team delegation of Benin.
The Disciplinary Committee made some recommendations.
*Mr. Walujo Edrine has been suspended for FIVE (5) YEARS in accordance with Section 7.04 (f) of the FUBA Competition Rules and Regulations 2024.
*Mr. Walujo Edrine shall henceforth not participate in any of the FUBA sanctioned events either as an Athlete, a Fan or an Administrator with any of the Clubs affiliated to the Federation.
*The suspension is effective as of the 19th day of August 2024.
Walujo has been a key player foe the City Oilers having played 24 games, averaging 5.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2 assists and 1.3 steals. He has 42.1% FG and the 5th highest +/- for the City Oilers with 217.
The City Oilers currently lead the UCU Canons 2:0 in the series and they arw on course for a 10th Championship in a row.
Walujo has also been serving as assistant coach at ladies’ side Amazon Rhinos in Division One.
