Lauryn Mary Katongole has intesfied her training ahead of the 2025 National Chess Championship that will be held at Nob View Hotel Ntinda between 16-19 January.
Katongole is a member of Pioneer Knights who have participated in several championships and yearning for more.
The 12 year old who was inspired by her coach Vicent Mugisa acknowledges playing chess as a key factor that has helped her improve in mathematics,
“Chess is an interesting game that helps you think hard. I have managed to achieve the little I have so far achieved due to continuous training.”
“During school times, I normally train after classes and over the weekends, but since we are in holidays I do training with my siblings at home.”
Katongole also advised young girls to try and practice the game since it doesn’t require a lot of energy,
“Being a girl I believe I stand being a star chess doesn’t need a lot of energy hence easier for us credit to my friends Calvin Peter Kayiwa, Cedric Mutebi, Helen Naija and Tisha Kaddu who inspired me to play chess and have helped a lot in my learning process.” Katongole remarks.
The 2025 National Chess Championship is organised by the Uganda Chess Federation and will be FIDE Rated.
