Gazelles beat Egypt to seal Afrobasket Slot

Uganda’s national women’s Basketball team, the Gazelles have sealed a place at the 2025 Women’s Afrobasket with victory over Egypt in the Zone V final.

Uganda smiled to a 74-63 win over Egypt at the Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall on Saturday.

The Gazelles won the first quarter 19-18 before winning the second quarter 21-11 to head into halftime with a 10- point lead.

In the third quarter they stretched their lead to 61-45 before securing their victory 74-63.

Under the stewardship of Nicholas Natuhereza, the Gazelles will be at the 2025 edition of the Women’s Afrobasket slated for 27 July to 3rd August 2025 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

They had previously featured at the 1997, 2015 and 2023 Afrobasket tournaments.

Nigeria, Senegal, Rwanda, Mali, Cameroon, Angola and hosts Ivory Coast are the nations that qualified for the event.
