NEC FC smiled to a 3-1 win over Maroons FC on Friday at Luzira Prison ground to keep their title hopes alive.
Following their goalless stalemate with Wakiso Giants in their previous game, NEC needed to return to winning ways to keep in touching distance with leaders Vipers.
Enock Ssebaggala, Paul Mucureezi and Emmanuel Ajo scored NEC FC’s three goals
Rogers Kiwanuka found a consolation for the home side.
Ssebaggala who handed a national team call up opened the scoring in the 12th minute before Mucureezi doubled NEC’s advantage nine minutes later from the spot after Gideon Odongo had been brought down in the forbidden area.
Kiwanuka gave Maroons a lifeline when he also converted from the spot.
Ajo scored the third for NEC FC before the halftime breather.
The second half did not not produce more scoring opportunities as NEC continued to keep up with leaders Vipers.
They are now on 44 points five adrift of Vipers while Maroons are seventh on 27 points.
