St Mary’s Kitende suffers defeat as St Noa edge South Africa in CAF Africa Schools Championship

Uganda’s representatives at the CAF Africa Schools Football Championship had mixed results on the opening day in Accra, Ghana on Wednesday.

In the boys’ category, St Mary’s Secondary School Kitende suffered a 2-0 defeat to host nation Ghana.

Kitende humbled by Ghana

John Andoh netted in either half for Ghana who claimed maximum points over Uganda’s representatives.

Andoh gave the hosts the lead in the third minute of the contest before sealing their victory in midway through the second period.

Kitende will now aim for maximum points in their remaining group A games against South Africa and Algeria.

Meanwhile, St Noa registered their first win of the campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over holders South Africa.

Grace Kawino scored the all important goal as St Noa maximized points over South Africa.

The other Group B for both St Noa and South Africa are Gambia and DR Congo.

Winners of both the Boys’ and Girls’ competition will each receive USD 300 000 prize money, with the runners-up receiving USD 200 000 and bronze medallists USD 150 000 to be utilised for development projects within schools
