Vipers SC began their Uganda Premier League title defence with a narrow 1-0 victory over Entebbe UPPC at Bugonga Fisheries ground on Saturday.
Abdul Karim Watambala scorer of their goal against Power Dynamos during their CAF champions League exit in Zambia last week again scored the Venoms only goal of the contest.
Vipers had to wait to kickoff their title defense following their protest over the now the suspended three new round format and their Caf expedition.
Watambala gave the champions the lead in the 62nd minute after being fed by Yunus Sentamu.
Entebbe UPPC under the stewardship of former Vipers coach Abdallah Mubiru were denied a late point when Alfred Mudekereze saved Isa Bugembe’s decent strike in the final minutes of the game.
Vipers held on to maximize their first points of the campaign and are now 13th on the table with 3 points while Entebbe UPPC drop to 8th place with seven points.
The Venoms next face KCCA FC on Friday next week while Entebbe UPPC will travel to Calvary FC on the same day.
Meanwhile, NEC FC registered their first win of the season with a slim 1-0 win over Mbarara City at Kamwenge.
