On Wednesday, National Council of Sports and Makerere University signed a memorandum of understanding to build a world class training facility at the University.
National Council of Sports Chairman Ambrose Tashobya asserted that the facility will be able to host night games with the installation of floodlights.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with Makerere University and other government entities to create an enabling environment for sports across Africa. We look forward to the university harnessing this facility, and we are committed to achieving CAF’s requirements so that the stadium can host games both day and night.” Stated Tashobya
The facility is among the four training pitches alongside Namboole (outside pitch), Kyambogo University and Kadiba selected for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) that will be Co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
The construction project will be co-supervised by the Ministry of Works and Transport, NCS, and Makerere University, ensuring rigorous standards and timely completion. Notably, the UPDF Engineering Brigade has been appointed as the contractor, guaranteeing a robust and secure build.
It will have a football pitch, dressing rooms, eight-lane athletics track, floodlights and a standby generator (250kVA), 100,000 Water tanks with a seating capacity of 1000 spectators.
