Eight people have lost their lives in the fatal road crash that involved football fans of Red Devo FC along the Kampala–Gulu Highway.
The accident occurred at Kalule in Luweero District, when a taxi that had Red Devo fans crashed with a lorry.
Red Devo supporters were travelling back home after their side’s 4-0 defeat to Express FC in Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 16 contest on Friday at Nakivubo.
According to Pacu Pacu news the fans are based in Amolatar District.
Express FC has said in a statement; “Everyone at Express condoles with the football community to mourn the lives of Amolatar fans who passed away in a tragic accident on their way back from our game against Red Devo FC.”
Oyuku Arafat, Owiny Bonny, also known as Kawinya, and Odyek Juma are the three people who died at the scene.
But by Saturday morning, the death troll had risen to eight following the death of five more people who had been take to Mulago National Referral Hospital for treatment.
Six remain in critical condition at Mulago, while four others are being treated at a health facility in Luweero District.
