Masaka based Muteesa 1 Royal University, have forged a reputation for upsets, but Thursday’s evening in Kavule they produced one of the biggest in Pepsi University Football League history. They prevailed to the final after a 3-1 win away to St. Lawrence University.
Facing three-time finalists St Lawrence University who were unbeaten this term, Muteesa 1 Royal University had a daunting task, following their goalless stalemate at home from the first leg.
Yet they rose to the occasion once more – just like they had done in beating three time champions Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi on away goal’s rule after 2-all aggregate score to reach the semifinals.
It was another resolute and determined display in Kavule to end St. Lawrence University’s seven year invincibility and make history.
Goals from Katende Eric, Lutwama Ali and Rwothomio Brian sent Muteesa 1 Royal University into this year’s final while Ssemanda Collins who had levelled matters for SLAU his goal could only turn into a consolation.

This is a step into the unknown for Muteesa 1 Royal University as they prepare to play in final against fellow first timers YMCA the first time.
For Davis Nnono and his beloved St.Lawrence the long wait for that major University Football League title continues and now they will fight for bronze medals against two time champions Kampala University.

Kampala University were eliminated by YMCA 6-5 on penalties after a goalless stalemate over two legs.
