Taddeo Lwanga completed his return from injury as he came off the bench in Simba’s 2-0 win over Dodoma Jiji in the Tanzania NBC Premier League at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Monday night.

The Cranes central midfielder replaced Erasto Nyoni in the 79th minute to mark his first appearance since October last year.

Lwanga had last featured for Simba when he was withdrawn and replaced by Nyoni in the 72nd minute of the shocking 3-1 home defeat to Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy in the final round of the CAF Champions League qualifiers.

His injury also ruled him out of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers where Uganda finished second behind Mali who proceeded to the next qualification round.

Last month, Simba’s communication manager Ahmed Ally spoke about Lwanga’s return and how the club nearly terminated his contract before they were convinced by the doctor to wait for his return.

The former Vipers and Villa skipper is expected to play a key role in the club’s subsequent fixtures in the league and on the continent as it was last season.

Lwanga was instrumental in Simba’s splendid performance last season as they won a domestic double and reached the quarter finals of the CAF Champions League.

Simba will play against Morocco’s RS Berkane on Sunday in their next game in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Second half goals from Clatous Chama (penalty) and Meddie Kagere against Dodoma Jiji ensured Simba move to 37 league points, eight behind leaders Yanga Africans.
