The Uganda Lady Rugby Cranes team for the Rugby Africa Women’s Cup has been flagged off for the tournament slated for May 23rd to 31st at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi, Kenya.

The squad has 28 players for the championship that will see Uganda battle with hosts Kenya, South Africa, and Madagascar.

Assistant Deputy General Secretary at National Council of Sports, Joseph Oluga flagged off the team at Copper Chimney in Lugogo.

For starters, the Rugby Africa Women’s Cup is the premier women’s 15s rugby competition on the continent.

The event will also serve as part of the qualification pathway for next year’s Women’s Rugby World Cup qualifiers.

Last year, Uganda finished third in the previous edition that was staged in South Africa.

Madagascar won the title after overcoming South Africa 61-17 in the final.

Uganda’s only victory at the tournament in South Africa was against eventual champions Madagascar, with the Lady Cranes triumphing 24-20.
