Several Ugandan athletes will be in action on Friday at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Scotland.
Team Uganda is composed of 55 athletes to compete in 10 disciplines, including 5 para-athletes from 8 federations. Of the delegation, 34 are female and 21 are male. Women will feature in all disciplines except weightlifting and track cycling.
Uganda’s Basketball 3×3 team, Gazelles will make their Commonwealth Games debut against Jamaica at 2:55Pm before facing off with Cayman Islands at 5:20Pm and Kenya at 10:15Pm.
The Gazelles team has Jane Asinde, Perus Nyamwenge, Melissa Akullu and Jamila Nansikombi.
Bombers captain Nuhu Batte will be in action against Nigeria’s Abdulram AbdulWahab in the men’s 65Kg boxing round of 32 bout at 7:30Pm at SEC Hall 5.
Three Ugandan para powerlifters will also be in action today at the SEG Armadillo, these are Janet Nakayobyo (women’s lightweight), Rebecca Zawedde (women’s heavyweight) and Denis Mbazira (men’s heavyweight).
Tendo Kaumi will be in the men’s swimming 50m backstroke heats, Gloria Muzito and Kirabo Namutebi will compete in the women’s 50m butterfly heats, while Jordan Samula will race in the men’s 100m breaststroke heats at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre.
Kaumi, Samula, Jesse Ssengonzi and Tendo Mukalazi will be seeking a place in the next round of the 4x100m freestyle relay.
