Former Rwanda international Olivier Karekezi has stepped down as Rayon Sport head coach. Karekezi was appointed at the helms of Rwanda Premier League Champions Rayon Sport in July last year.

Karekezi is believed to have departed for Sweden hours after losing 1-0 to arch rivals APR last Sunday.
According to Club general Secretary Bernard Itangishaka says,

“We need official communication from Karekezi, in the meantime, assistant coach Jeannot Witakenge will be in charge of the team.”

He also confirmed that they had not lost patience with Karekezi as to various rumours, following his defeat to APR FC.

“It is not true, we were happy with him because his performance was not bad. We have not talked to him yet, but if he returns we shall sit with him and see what to do next. We play well, but our biggest problem is scoring and so it was too early for us to judge him because we are still in contention in every competition,” added Itangishaka.

However, close sources to the tactician confirm that Karekezi handed in his resignation letter to the club hierarchy.
In his letter, he gave a lot of reasons that caused his resignation involving match fixing claims.

His assistant Jeannot Witakenge and goalkeeping coach Ramadthan Nkunzingoma will take helms at the club who are currently fourth on the log with 18 points and five points adrift of leaders Kiyovu
