Ugandan Athlete wins silver in Poland

Ugandan runner Jennifer Nyakato yesterday won a silver medal in Lublin, Poland after becoming second in 800m final in the Women’s category.

Nyakato was the only Ugandan representative at the 4th World Deaf Championships.

The Ugandan posted a time of 2:10.26 in a race which was won by Russian Luliia Abubiakirova who managed 2:08.23. Another Russian Kudriavtseva Ekaterina finished third and won Bronze with 2:12.44.

The 27 year old has previously been at the podium on continental level when she became the first Ugandan to claim Gold in the African Deaf Athletics Championships.

The World Deaf Championship is a Global event in th sport of Athletics for the Deaf. It is organised by the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf every after four years and was first held in 2008.

Nyakato’s victory comes barely a month after other Ugandan Athletes in Peruth Chemutai, Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo all had a podium finish in the recently concluded Olympic games in Tokyo, Japan.
